21.03.2015 Q&A

Let me tell you a story about the FV4202 HD model. Storm confirmed that the reason the vehicle was delayed was because "permission approval in Bovington in order to model it takes too long" - the delay was/is long ("many months"). According to Yuri Pasholok, Wargaming's historian, there were some shady Richard Cutland's activities in Bovington recently, specifically Cutland slandering Yuri Pasholok in front of Richard Smith, the museum director, which was unprofessional. I wonder if there is a connection...

- Camo factor of a vehicle DOES change if you switch a turret (the camo factor is heavily influenced by height of the vehicle);
- WG is aware that the 0.9.7 version (new Bigworld) causes serious issues with crashes and black screen freezes, it will be fixed;
- Q: "Superpershing was nerfed in HD!" A (Storm): "Oh really...", later he adds that there is no need for players to send WG historical materials - the vehicle is not ready yet and it will be reworked (RG: Better have something done nicely and on is own time than try to rush things and make it even worse, lets be patient);
- Super Pershing rework (compared to earlier leaked HD model) will include correcting the upper frontal plate and lower frontal plate angles and making the additional plate over the mantlet bigger;
- It is not sure whether the M10/Panther hybrid removal from the ingame store in the 0.9.7 Test 2 is intentional and tied to the announced removal of limited MM vehicles from sales, Storm will find out the truth on Monday;
- Storm states he stays by his opinion that the quality assurance in Wargaming is one of the best in gaming industry.

  1. So why are they making the FV4202 in HD if they are planning to replace it very soon with the Action X?

    1. Because a normal 4202 is being used elsewhere in the tech tree.

    2. Ok, that makes sense. Thanks.

    3. It will become a premium, but unlike with the T34 you won't get it for free even if you had already invested a lot of time and gold into getting it as a non premium.

    4. And we all know that it may be another year before we see the action x

    5. Where did you hear it might be another year?

    6. Nowhere. But wargaming...

    7. Well Klint, you get the tier 10, what else do you want? What a stupid argument.

    8. Dan, you already have the tier X, so that's not really an argument is it.

      There is also the issue of WG's inconsist behaviour. Up until this point, they have always provided compensation for replced vehicles. Why the sudden change?

    1. Depends what you are looking at.

      Many games (vast majority) are put together quickly, to make as much money as fast as possible.
      It's a gaming industry after all.
      Alternatively you have all the indie titles, where just 3 or 4 people can't afford to cover massive QA programs. It would be QA or the game, and the game comes first.

      That leaves us with the remaining categories: Long term games, and big name AAA titles.

      WOT is the former, and needs passable QA or people will just leave.
      AAA games can afford to do it.

      WOT QA isn't great, (I mean M55 debacle) but it is better than 80+%of all developers by default

    2. source please?? where do your 80% come from?

  3. Is there any update on the Action X? Last I heard it would have no armor to speak of and be very slow. That does not make sense for a medium.

    1. Action X has a very tough turret and average mobility (like the FV4202 does currently). Overall it's not that bad. It will come when the FV4202 is switched.

    2. WG is soo stupid. Just replace them now and keep the 4202 in non-HD as a tier 8 premium. What's the dif?

    3. to my memory the 4202 model is done, I think this is more talking about him f*#king up WG being allowed to get the data for the Action X and maybe Chieftain

  6. Camo factor tied to turret is BS, camo has nothing to do with vehicle height, it is a number Wargaming pull out of thin air.

    Not the first time the Q&A has had something which is blatantly wrong tho.

    1. Camo is actually influenced heavily by the OA height of the vehicle. Although height is just one of the measurements.

      Delete
    2. The translation may be fine, but the fact that is stated is pure BS, sry. Just compare the height of some ingame models and then stick there camo factors in that comparison. You will come to an easy conclusion: Camo factor is a WG made factor that is based loosely on the height of the vehicle. Even different turrets may change that factor logically depending on their height, doesnt make the "camo factor depends on height of the vehicle" BS true.

      Delete
    3. He said "Heavily influenced", not depends. Of course there are other factors such as balancing and vehicle class, but you don't need to overdramatize that.

    4. I never said I doubted the translation. I do doubt the dev who made the statement. I am guessing it wasn't one of the senior staff.

      Camo values have absolutely nothing to do with tank height. Anyone who says they do aught to go and compare a few camo values of similar height tanks.

      And tanks have one camo value, assigned to the hull, turrets pay no part in it whatsoever.

    5. Can someone check ARL 44's camo with a house turret and elite turret

    6. Well, to be honest, you argument seems wrong too, according to your own replies...

      It's either "nothing" or "something", which one is it.

      Delete
    7. Just looked something up. It seems height of a vehicle definitely has some influence on camo, just maybe not the value directly. One of the outer shape points is located directly on top of the turret. So a higher turret will place that outer shape point higher, making you easier to spot.

      And since the baseCamo factor is calculated using the spotters view ports and spottees (not sure if that is a word) outer shape points, it seems likely turrets do have some influence on this.

  9. On the Battle Results main page, it no longer gives total damage and total spotting. Was this intentional?

  10. Yuri Pasholok is a bit of a plank lets be honest. Rich is just alot more knowledgeable than Yuri its that simple. So intill we get the full story from the other side (this being rish's side of the story) then its just a w.e one sided story

    1. Actually "The Challenger" isn't knowledgeable at all. In fact because of him they have a hard time researching French and German vehicles now, as well as his efforts that completely FUBARed the French tree. And the British tree still has several issues (and will have even after the FV215b and FV4202 are replaced at Tier X).

      Don't get me wrong, I think Yuri is an asshat and a troll, Richard Cutland is horribly incompetent and is far more likely to get things wrong.

    I thought that Viktor Kisly helped Bovington with some fund. Was that not enuff for them to help WG?

    1. I think SS said that Richard Cutland torpedoed the agreement and relationship between WG and Bovington.

  13. Jesus, Wargaming seems to keep changing details about the Super Pershing rework. It seems they're trying to tread a very thin line. I really hope it's a buff though; it badly needs it, and another nerf would make the tank virtually useless.
