American Hope, American Dreams!

Author: CK16

As previously mentioned in past articles, we talked about the M48 Patton and its development along with the M60 and M60A1. This brief article is to put on the table just why the M60A1 would be such an upgrade to the American Medium tree similar to what the FV4202 to the Centurion Action X switch wias to the UK tree. These stats are a mix from the current in game stats and real life and as mentioned are marked differently as needed. So what would the M60A1 look like possibly in game? Let’s take a look first at some stats of the M48A1 and M60 to compared them to each other in game and real life. Then the M60A1 will be brought in and you can make judgement.

(M48A1 vs M60 vs M60A1)

Now as you can see just the M48 and M60 are distinctively different. More so than some have been lead to believe in game. The AVDS-1790-2 Diesel Engine’s offer more torque at a lower RPM than the Gasoline AVSI-1790-7B, what does the mean for game play? Well it is possible that this could translate to soft stats of better get up and go ability, and be quicker than the M48A1 currently. The M60 has a different hull some would argue since the better angle on the front offers better protection but overall this is pretty close to the same. The Turrets between the M48A1 and M60 are almost identical for many reasons. The biggest is the M60 turret as stated in the previous article is a modified M48A2 turret that had slight adjustment to fit the larger 105mm M68 over the original M48 90mm M41.  As well a different cupola with slightly better angling but squatter in size. So the M60 is slightly better than the M48 in some key areas.

Now after comparing the first two, we now get to the M60A1. This is the biggest upgrade over the M48A1. To make a long list short some of the biggest areas where improvement would be.
  • Far better turret, offering better frontal protection with angled faces over round.
  • More gun depression at -10° from -9°
  • Slightly more mobile, possible better acceleration with the diesel.
  • Possible rate of fire buff to 7 rounds a minute (this could also be applied to the M60 then)
  • Cupola has angles over rounded shape.
  • Hull has angled face over round shape, some think this is an upgrade.
  • Looks damn good!

This is just a rough picture of what could be expected from such a change or addition to the game. That the current M60 should be a different feeling vehicle and that with the current state that some feel the M48A1 is in that it has been turned into more a tier 9 tank with a tier 10 gun with the new tier 10’s coming out. The replacement of the FV4202 ot the Centurion Action X further pushes the M48 down the totem pole and takes the crown in the best hull down medium tank some feel. The M48A1 suffers from being power creeped out of competitiveness now after many patches and little changes to the tank. Besides the sentimental reasons that many who want the more iconic M60A1 have, you can clearly see as well it would be an upgrade for the American tree and help with game balance.
