15.04.2015 Q&A

Here it is:

- Storm confirms: the Super Pershing HD model that was used in 9.7 testing is not final because it is not correct (specifically, the additional plate angles are not). The finalized version will be available in 9.8. The frontal armor will be buffed (especially due to more favorable angles of the spaced armor plates);
- The fact that you can't bind some keys to various functions in WoT is "old Bigworld issue", developers simply didn't have the time to fix that;
- SU-26 will not have its old elite gun returned, it will be buffed only slightly;
- The model where gun damage doesn't depend on gun's caliber but on its tier only was not even considered;
- Storm does not have a VK account (so any VK posts by him are fake) and is not responsible for various PR events (or bonus codes);
- Wargaming is currently reworking artillery by testing "four additional artillery game mechanics" (not sure what makes it to the game);
- SerB is fine, he is not talking about WoT much anymore because he oversees ALL the Wargaming projects;
- The HD IS-4 armor is fine, was not nerfed: the frontal armor angle changed by only like half a degree, the roof weakspot got 20 percent smaller (surface-wise), the hole behind the mantlet got smaller;
- Putting is a new HD model into a patch is quite difficult. In 9.7 test, the testing department was overloaded by finding and fixing the bugs in the new Big World version;
- WoT has "completely different" audience than GTA 5 according to Storm;
- Storm on how good AAA projects look (specifically GTA 5): "There's nothing new innovation- and idea-wise. It's simply well done, as far as I could see. That's the power of good projects - they don't have to be especially innovative, they have to be well made."
- There is currently no progress on "map matchmaker" (that would not put you 10 times on the same map in a row) - "nothing for now, there will be fixes but not soon";
- Some players calculated that with current rework speed, it will take WG five years to rework all the vehicles to HD. Storm states that it will be faster;
- If you completed any individual mission before the 9.8 changes, you will still have them completed. If you did not, you will still have them incomplete even if you previously completed the conditions for the new "easier" version;
- The individual mission where you have to scout and your platoon mates do the damage will be changed.

And if you read this far, a treat for you:

  2. i wonder if one of the new arty mechanics is them appearing on the map the instant they fire so people can try to figure out where to go to avoid them or maybe it will show where on the map their gun is pointed or maybe a max of 5 per game.

    1. Skilled player already know where the arty probably is so he calculates with that and goes only where arty can not shoot at him :) If dont know where the arty can and can not hit you, you can't be a very good player.

    6. it already IS a max of 5 per game. they made that change a few patches back. and as I type I see ApeW' has already beat me to the punch...had games where it was 10 arty per side...those were rare, but interesting.

      (only 8 per side, but I didn't always snap a screen shot)

    7. People, before you complain; learn the difference between 5 per game and 5 per team.

      Delete
    8. Play a few games and you'll roughly know where arties would be. Unless they have shit range like the FV304, they won't be moving around that much unless the team is moving up. The arty safe spots for a map would be safe for quite a lot of games.
      That's the case for the average arty players, good ones will probably move around to get better shots and stuff, so you just need to be mindful of potential spots for arty.

      Delete
    9. @Eldrak, I guess that would be a possibility but it would have to be a round number. Also, consider the trade-offs:
      By making it 2v2 max or so there may be less arty in every game but 1 and 0 per team would become much rarer as the arties would be spread out better.

      I personally prefer the rare 4-5 per team if it means there will be some 0-1 per team games.

    What is that about?
    Will I get Mission marked as incomplete if I didn't do the secondary conditions?

    That doesn't make any sense for me...

    1. Sounds like a translation error. Basically, the update will not affect your progress, at least that is what they said earlier. Incomplete ones will be incomplete, complete ones will be complete, and no compensation for doing the "harder" missions after they become easier.

      so far i got stug4 (sold), and t28htc. most of missions were not completed with secondary objectives, so basicly, after 9.8 i can do them again? twice the credits for more or less same mission? this can't be right, wg doesn't give free credits so easy :P

    3. Re-read it slowly.

      Basically:
      Old mission: Spot 5000 damage
      New mission: Spot 3000 damage

      If you played the old mission and did 4000 damage, you won't have it completed after the patch magically, even though you played a battle where you fulfilled the new, softer target.

      why are people selling stug ?
      Stug 3 is the best vehicle Ive ever driven. Stug 4 is basically "stock" 3G isnt it ?

      Anyway, it's a unique vehicle, we probably wont be able to buy it ever.
      Is it really worth the few credits and one silly garage place ?

      You can buy garage place for 150g during discounts and make that amount of credits in about 10 battles. Definitely worth losing something not everybody has. He'll I kept even the PZ II D even though Ive never played it yet.

      since u asked, i am not a fan of low tier vehicles,i just play them to get to top vehicles
      i dont sell them for free garage slots
      i sell them couse i find them annyoing or playing them brings me little or no joy
      even if its special* and i dont like it, its gone.
      i sell all my t2 gift tanks, even sold the tog2 from togtober
      4 now i am keeping chi nu kai
      i have type 62, wz111,sp from missions too.i keep them only for farming credits even though i dont like them so much, but selling them would be stupid
      in short i dont collect low tier gift tanks, or mission tanks i dont like
      every tank i ever had appears in service record, for me its enough

    6. I sold the pzrIId and the british one and all crap lower tier tanks the same day i get them. The pziid was so bad i didnt bother to even play one game. When i get stugg 4 i will sell it since its inferior in all ways to stugg iiiG so why play it? I bet i earn more creds and crew training due to better results in vastly superior tank.

      And yes, I got about 10 tanks in garage I've never even tried on battlefield. But I dont mind having them in garage and one garage place is not worth it.

      Oh and by the way...
      Yes stug IV is inferior, but who knows, maybe they will buff it somehow. Its not a premium. They said they can change reward tanks freely.

    Does not like this :/ Maybe it will be good, who knows, but what worries me is that they will implement some stupid idea that will make arty completely useless, for instance;

    - Skill that lets you know when arty aims for you: yeah good luck hitting anything now when everyone will climb the walls as soon as you point on them. Perfect for trolling when you wait for your reload.

    - Your position will be spoiled when you fire: Guess what? Noone will shoot because when they do they will be insta-arty-countered, or some scout n00b will suicide rush just to get 400 damage done.

    - Worse accuracy: Yeah well soon we will hit our allies instead of that heavy that was infront of them...

    - Lower damage: Makes no sense at all... 240 mm granade that makes the damage damage as a 88 mm -.-

    Not saying it can't be done in a good way, I can't just think of, and have never heard of, any suggestion that would actually work for both the arty and those getting hit.

      ------ wonder how will this work, I rarely aim directly at tank. You usually aim slightly behind it, so that the shell will hit it.

      - Your position will be spoiled when you fire: Guess what? Noone will shoot because when they do they will be insta-arty-countered, or some scout n00b will suicide rush just to get 400 damage done.
      ------ camo useless, they can as well give arty one shell load limit.

      - Worse accuracy: Yeah well soon we will hit our allies instead of that heavy that was infront of them...
      ------ once I almost destroyed LAV AntiAircraft vehicle on Battlefield 4 server. That awesome is the accuracy when not fully aimed right now. Good luck hitting moving targets. If we get worse accuracy, hitting yourself will become a real threat.

      - Lower damage: Makes no sense at all... 240 mm granade that makes the damage damage as a 88 mm -.-
      ------ exactly. Also taking in account the fact that it loads for almost a minute and you need to take day off from work to aim. I see meds at tier X doing over 6000 damage every second game. Yet I saw arty do that twice in my 10k games. And they are complaining about arty damage.
      Who cares it can oneshot a tank. You need so much luck to do that, even 2 tiers lower scout can onehsot heavy if it has the same amonut of luck. Ammorack.

  10. For the record, here is how I would rework arty. By the way, I love arty and play it often.
    1. Arty only sees directly or by people targeting. If people don't target, then they can still see the tank on the minimap, but not on overhead or battle assistant. Only people who target are eligible for the half of the credit. A request for target lasts for some time period to be worked out on the test server (perhaps 30 seconds). These requests will only be seen by the arty, with icons on the minimap, so not as chat spam.
    2. From the sixth sense rework they keep promising, the idea is that the radioman listens in on chatter and knows when they have been spotted. By a similar mechanic we can have a warning when the tank is targeted, with a lag period to be determined on the test server (perhaps 5 seconds). Additionally, the radioman can have translation as a skill, which will reduce the lag between targeting and warning. You will also be warned if a tank within x meters of you has been targeted, btw.

    This, I take it, was the idea behind the suitcase bombs, where warning was given that a certain area was being targeted.

    Oh, one more thing. How about adding Trigonometry as a skill for gunners that only applies to arty? Math, after all, is just as cool as playing arty.

    1. +1 friend good if adeas

    2. How many players on tier 4, 5, 6 and even 7 uses targeting?

      Also, consider this: A scout spots 2 vehicles. He targets the 2st one, and after that, he targets the 2nd one. 3 seconds after that, the 2nd vehicle gets hidden again. So either the arty will just see the 2nd vehicle for 3 seconds, or the 2nd vehicle will still be visible for arty even though it's not spotted anymore...

      Delete
    3. Make it a way to earn xp, and people will hover over the tank outline and hit the "t" key. I sometimes will get lots of xp for hiding my light tank in a bush. This would make me work for the spotting cred. It also means that tanks that are brawlers would only get the spotting cred if they worked for it. If they are too busy to hit the "t" key occasionally, then arguably, their crew is too busy to be calling in arty strikes.

      I would only have them visible to arty if they were visible, so in your example, just 3 seconds. The tank would still get warned, because, after all, you can still shoot at a spot on the map even after the vehicle is unspotted. This does open the question of whether the targeter should get some cred if you shoot within 30 seconds of a targeting, but after the tank goes unspotted. As it stands, the answer is no, but arguably, the answer should be yes.

      BTW, thanks for giving a thoughtful response. Much appreciated.

    4. No problem mate :) But please don't get me wrong, it's nice that you share your suggestion, but I'm a little bit skeptical if it's this easy to actually "balance" arty, which brings me back to the main question; why are they even doing this? Arty is fine as it is, no need to change it :/

      Delete
    5. Arty in game now is easy to play, 90% by NOOBS, and OP. U just sit at spawn and click. It takes zero skill. I have 18k games and zero in arty, but did all nonplatoon missions for stugg in around 50 games, easy. It took me much longer for missions in all other classes of tanks. I uses free xp to jump to M40 and FV304 so those r only 2 arty i ever played.

      Delete
    6. @Mark West: Ah, so now it's "90%" and not "all" like you said last time? Hahaha dude, your statements, oh my - not worth the time to explain it all over again... Watch this instead and you might finally understand the problem:

    8. I dont agree the arty strike warning and the targetting system.

      That warning is just making hitting fast tanks difficult.

      The targetting system is too difficult to use and most of the time WONT WORK. arty players simply will do what they think they should. Also, tank drivers dont necessaryly know what arty drivers know, such as arty driver seeing a tree falling. A pro will turn towards it and get ready for shot gun. this time, LTs who are doing the spotting will simply think "our arty is a noob! he's doing nothing!" and arty players get blamed for their defeat.
      What actually happened to me is that my team insulted me for doing horribly in the game in ruinberg in my AMX 13 105 AM mle50. They just dont understand that I dont do well simply bcox the shell path is too flat and I can do nothing other than watching from above.

      I think the reason why arty is always blamed is bcox it's not popular comparing to other tanks and TDs. LTs, I bet anyone has somehow drove fast Lights, such as soviet BT and german Pz 1 C. Meds are popular bcox they are famous, such as T-34 and Sherman. Heavies, are famous as there are Tigers, KV-1....

      However, arty? No. Self propelled arty never did sth worth showing off in the 2 World Wars. People play them bcox they only look at the BIG guns but not soft stats.

      Conclusion: unless WG do sth to make arty as popular as tanks, they will still be the annoying thing in the game.

      My suggestion in making arty popular: Give artys high tier modules and most importantly, use 2nd module of a tank, such as engine, suspension and radio, as artys (that share the same chassis) stock modules. Therefore players will play arty to unlock modules they found difficult to unlock in tanks.

      Delete
    9. And all tanks without direct spot are contacted by the radioman and can watch enemy positions on minimap only like the artillery. That would be realistic but do u want this?

  11. "- SU-26 will not have its old elite gun returned, it will be buffed only slightly;"

    SU-26 with stock gun is a killer in tier 3 battles, especially on small maps (like mittengrad), however, in T5 battles its UP

    "- Wargaming is currently reworking artillery by testing "four additional artillery game mechanics" (not sure what makes it to the game);"

    Wow, not long after AW published a class video (where arty is much more balanced and interesting) WG starts to rework arty... coincidence? Anyway, its time to repair what was destroyed in 8.6

    4. Lee will be fine if it has more HP, somthing like 350, same as other tier 4 Meds except Matilda.

      SP does not need a buff. the gun is also used as top gun in T25/2, tier 7 turreted TD that also meets tier 9s but without armour and not that fast. Comparing to T29, I would really use SP instead in any map Yes T29 has an invincible turret, but I would rather have a strong upper glacis and a little more speed.
      for the gun, 105 shells for t29 costs 1000 creds, but SP 90mm only costs 255. It has lower alpha, but similar dpm and a little less pen.

      conclusion: i want SP more than t28

  16. The Super Pershing was a great Tier 8 Medium. They then changed it, nerfed it stuck it in the ground buried it, and paved a road over it.

    Wargaming gave us all 7200 gold and bought it back. They made the tank UNPLAYABLE. They measured and changed all the frontal armor values to make it more historical. I guess their measurements and angles were WRONG because it looks like they are going back to Pre- Sale buffs on it's armor.

    Way to drop the ball wargaming. This is your "Crack" staff or is it staff on crack?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Its actually a bit more complicated than that... The problems with the original SP armor actually go all the way back to the version it was released as...

      Version 1(Release through patch 8.8): Spaced armor plates were at the correct angles, but the plates were reversed- the interior plate was at 60 degrees from vertical while the exterior plate was also 60 degrees from vertical. The interior plate also ended around 1/3 of the way up the glacis, meaning the lower 1/3 was too tough, and the upper 2/3 were too weak. Additionally, the interior spaced plate was not modeled as an independent plate, but as thickened hull armor beneath the exterior spaced plate.

      Version 2(Patch 8.8-Present): At some point, someone who lack basic reading comprehension but was given a job with WG's historical accuracy department anyway, then misread or read a mistranslated version of Belton Cooper's account of the tank's armor modification. At this point the armor was nerfed so that the spaced plates were now at 60 degrees and 52 degrees from *horizontal*, leading to the now infamous nerf and a massive Super Pershing buyback.

      Version 3.1(HD model for 9.7 test server): A few months ago, the Chieftain was notified on the forums that the Super Pershing's frontal armor were unhistorical and he was given photographic proof that he sent up the pipes to Minsk. Regardless, the Super Pershing's HD model was already done and announced, so they released it on the 9.7 test server, despite saying that its release would be postponed to 9.8.

      This version basically has the same unhistorical angles from the 8.8 Super Pershing, but with the slight added nerf that the second spaced plate was no longer just thickened hull armor, but a whole new spaced plate that was subject to an additional round of normalization from AP and APCR rounds.

      Version 3.2 (Second 9.7 HD version.): This version has so far only been released as a set of high-res pictures and was not released onto the 9.7 test server. It partially fixed the frontal armor by remodeling the interior plate to cover the entire glacis plate as well as creating a more historical joint where the two plates meet at the top of the glacis plate and cover the blower housing. (The "bump" in the top-middle of the Pershing/Super Pershing's glacis plate.) However, as near as I can tell the armor angles are identical to those currently in the game on the SD version.

      Version 3.3 (9.8 HD model.): There haven't been any pictures released of what the final Super Pershing HD model will look like, however assuming that the modellers use the historical information it will probably be identical to the 3.2 but with the historical armor angles; interior spaced plate 38 degrees from horizontal and exterior spaced plate 30 degrees from horizontal with the interior plate fully covering the glacis. This should actually be a significant buff- the entire frontal plate should now be a black-hole for HE, HEAT and HESH rounds and with only a little back-angle the UFG plate gets pretty close to auto-bounce. Assuming that Storm doesn't go back on his claim that the Super Pershing won't lose the mobility, vision and fire control buffs it received in exchange for the armor nerf in 8.8, the 9.8 HD Super Pershing should be better than its ever been- faster, as good or better armor, and with superior vision and firecontrol to the release version. The 9.8 T26E4 should put the Super back in Super Pershing.
