Let’s start with the French Tech Tree; this is how it looks like now with its new 7 tanks:
Note: There was no players queuing for low tier battles as usual, I was only able to have matches with the Renault G1, AMX 30 1st Prototype and the AMX 30 B.

Seems decent, has the same armor values as the "Mini-Maus" Pz 38H except for the sides and back of the hull which is pretty nice and its gun has one of the best tier II penetration/damage values BUT don't except to go anywhere fast with it, only 24 km/h as top speed.
Renault R35

It has same gun as the FCM 36 but has more view/signal range and side hull armor which makes it even slower, 23 km/h.
Somua S35

Nothing really special about its gun and the entire armor is not much stronger than the Renault R35 but its tier V engine brings a huge boost as it reaches 45 km/h as top speed, it also has a tremendously good signal range.

Its gun is actually pretty good on both penetration and damage values and also has a very good signal range, its speed although is slower than the Somua S35, still okay but the armor is just depressing.

This tank has a 105mm derp and a 75mm non-derp gun options, both of them are actually quite decent in comparison with other mediums of same tier but I personally like the 105mm derp (Jingles has corrupted me), if your speed hasn't improved from the SARL 42 and the armor sucks might as well have some dirty fun right?
AMX 30 1st prototype

Time for the big boys. This tank is quite good, it may have poor armor but it just increases the mobility and acceleration that is very nice (even on reverse) and you can easily relocate to better positions and evade the enemy. On its gun, the penetration and damage values are pretty decent and found it to be quite accurate, the aiming time is a bit mediocre but it can be easily fixed with a Enhanced Gun Laying Drive, make sure to put Vertical Stabilizer Mk 1 as you will require to fire on the move frequently.
AMX 30 B

-Research cost: 180,100
-Purchase price: 6,100,000

And finally but definitely, so definitely not least, the AMX 30B; It has the same speed/mobility as his predecessor but has more hit points, sightly extra armor, view range, faster turret and traverse speed and the best, it reloads more rapidly! Loved it even more than the AMX 30 1st prototype!
A summary for both AMX's: When I saw the models for the first time their size, which is the same, and commander hatches worried me but this tanks have great gun elevation and depression, make sure to use it as an advantage together with their mobility and you will do fine, oh, and derp guns, avoid getting hit by them especially!
I hope they find suitable tanks to fill the tier 6 7 and 8 slots...

ReplyDeleteIndeed it has 8 degrees over Leo's 6. It won't be that bad if you have researched any french line (100mm unlocked). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I it uses even Bat Chat engine.

From what I've seen The 6th sense rework wont be for a while (And is definatly not in this patch) And the Scorpion is still a no show, from what I've heard and seen it seems to have ballance issues out the a** and is almost at the level of a T6 instead of a T7

Nah, the armor sucks too, just compare it with T-34's angled 45mm, or Sherman's angled frontal plate and turret, or even Pz IV's flat 80mm frontal armor.
DeleteThis crap is better on the sides meaning it won't always be penetrated by 105mm howitzer shots, but I would still worry about the russian 122mm howitzer.
Well, thats sucks. I have waited for this tanks for so long as for now, and now i got shitty, bulky top turret from freaking Lorraine G1L (realy WG? realy?) which ruins the very point of existence of frontal armor (which is not best by itself) and derpgun as top gun with no real alternative. WG as usual.

ReplyDeleteI don't like the AMX 30B. Feels and plays like a worse Leo 1. The tank started to burn after a frontal hit from an E50M, all that with a 100% crew with preventative maintenance and BIA, a big repair kit equipped and 10% fire chance. The tank is one big weak spot and reloads a tad slower than the Leo 1. In a 1 on 1 duel with a Russian tier X medium, it's dead meat, but then it's neither meant nor suited for classical medium tank gameplay: It's another moble, long distance sniper that has to rely on camo, a good gun and other team mates spotting for it like the Leo 1, and can only bring its speed into play in later stages of a match provided the enemy team is about to lose. In other words: Not a real medium tank. I had a firefight with an Obj. 140 at about 200m distance, and while the Obj.140 could pen the AMX 30B everywhere it wanted, I needed to hit its weakspots which thanks to the 9.6 accuracy nerf didn't always work. Add the insane RoF of a well equipped Obj.140 to that and you know how that ended. Not my cup of tea at all. WG can shove their crappy clones of existing tanks like this one up theirs.

DeleteAs of today, it's inadapted to the metagame. A way for WG to introduce more tanks that look great on paper, with a lot of hype behind them and get good money from people converting gold.
And yet, thousands of people will convert without any knowledge of the tank, just so they can feel like the "special guy" in-game with a new shiny tonk.. then get obliterated.. Kinda like the CDC, see so many people buy it, have a .02 damage ration 40% w/r, and preach how great it is in the in-game chat. kinda comical

ReplyDeleteProbably nobody cares very much about low tier French tanks, but doesn't the Somua S35 make the D2 obsolete in practically every way? Same gun, almost identical armour (S35s is slightly thinner but better sloped), but the S35 gets double the speed, 50% more turret traverse speed, better power/weight ratio, better view range, more hp, and double the radio range, at the cost of a small dpm drop.
ReplyDeleteIf there was imbalance like this in high-tier tanks, the screaming on here and on the forums would deafen little green men on mars. I know most people (both players and WG) see the low-tier stuff as an annoying inconvenience on the way to tier 10s and so on, but some of us would like to have a moderately balanced and playable game with interesting and historically significant early war tanks.
