09.04.2015 Q&A

Here it is:

- Storm reacting on the accusation that he's not up to speed because he doesn't play his own game: "Apart from me, several hundred people are working on the game. And all the problems are caused because I personally play WoT only a little? Are you feeling well?"
- Garage battles in WoT? "And why do you want it? I am asking so I understand what you personally expect from garage battles";
- If battles in WoT were more filled with action (faster), they'd become straining quickly;
- It is NOT easy to take real life scans or enough pictures to create an in-game model;
- Developers are working on HD tier 10 Soviet tanks but there's currently no ETA for that;
- Model elements that are identical to more models (for example T-34 suspension on Type T-34) can be copied from one another;
- Type 58 in HD soon? "There are other priorities";
- T92 Light Tank is difficult to implement in the game because there's no place in plans where to put it, development-wise for WoT it didn't progress beyond drawing an icon for it;
- Artillery re-balance will not come anytime soon;
- Some top tier vehicles have unhistorical guns because their real life guns would be too weak - if they were armed historically, they'd suck and the armor on that tier would be too strong;
- 9.7 will not bring penetration nerf;
- Despite the recent reveal of HD Hummel model, Storm confirms that artillery will be reworked to HD as last - Hummel is an exception because it's historical and it was planned for a long time;
- Regarding the Hummel, Type T-34 and Leopard 1 render - despite the fact Storm promised renders would be made using in-game textures, the texture quality on the screenshots is too high and the vehicles will not appear like that in the game. Storm reacted on that basically by saying that he needs to kick someone in the ass for that.

  1. I wonder if SS miss For the Record.

    1. Personally, I don't think so. I mean, he surely misses his good times, but I think FTR had mostly negative consequences for him. Less time, more things to take care of in his spare time, server upkeep, less time for his gf/bf (not judging) etc.

    2. I don't think he misses it as much as you might think, not when you consider the shear number fo hours he put into it day, after day, after day... 7 days a week... It was a metric ton of work.

  2. You'd think the creators of the super-HD models would have their asses caved-in by now.

    I always thought it wasn't really about weak guns, but WG's reluctance to introduce different versions of the same gun. WG could just introduce different shells for the same gun, like E50 and E50M. But they didn't.

    1. yeah,... and WG fixed it by giving us 420mm penetration guns. Assfucks.

      paper thin vehicles are most OP, because they got the mobility instead of armor.

      Heavy armored vehicles have a lot of useless armor that doesnt save you 75% of the time anyway.

  7. I for one am glad that matches are both short, and have even shorted periods of high awareness required. It is already mentally taxing, especially close matches, that I'm near the limit of my ability. If the whole match was tricky, I'd have to take sizable breaks between matches.

  8. - Storm reacting on the accusation that he's not up to speed because he doesn't play his own game: "Apart from me, several hundred people are working on the game. And all the problems are caused because I personally play WoT only a little? Are you feeling well?"

    So question, for a dev team that apparently has several hundred people why does the game develop so slowly? Really, there are dev teams with a 100 people capped that can take the time to push weekly updates (which include hotfixes, mission expansions and other content), interact with their community and still run support.

    Something isn't adding up with the numbers here, if there is something broken with a release then we shouldn't have to wait 3-4 months for a fix with a dev team that big. I know those hundreds of people arn't all programmers but come on, this is just nuts.

    As for the other point, if you can't take 15-30 min out of your day or even out of your week to play your game then you are the problem. You are disconnected, you don't see the problems that people have to contend with and are only seeing it on paper while setting your priorities that way. If you actually took the time to play your own game i bet you would see why people are (using your own words) "butt hurt about everything". Someone who seems to have no connection to the problems in game shouldn't be setting work schedules.

    1. Here I have to defend Storm...
      Programmers and the *think tanks* behind new gameplay and Map Design NEED to play this game to know where the problems are, but a chief dev like Storm is more an organizer...
      He must know which person does best on which job, he needs to keep the big view over the persons working together...
      For this he needs a good staff that gives him intel he can work with, but he doesn't need to play the game for it...
      It's a rocket Engineer... they devellop it, they never fly it ;)

    2. You are completely fucking retarded.

      Delete
    3. I'm really not seeing it and i don't agree. It's not like a rocket which you have to be specialized to fly or a piece of technology that you need to know the ins and outs of in order to operate, it's a game.

      Yes, you have people who give you bits and pieces of intel but you need to play in order to see the combined effects of your patching and update process. Getting told something second hand or seeing it written down is only a fraction as useful when compared to seeing it first hand.

      Saying "this gun is overpowered" can mean that it has a little to much pen and damage or it's 2 hitting higher tier tanks out of existence. With gaming it's not just a dream and idea to use your creation, it's almost a requirement for any half decent game dev.

    4. Most game devs are so full of themselves it is baffling. Should hear some of the stories about WOW devs. Their pissy introverted attitude towards anyone who is not a dev has actually delayed major patches for that game. I would not be surprised if it was the case for this game as well.

  9. -- 9.7 will not bring penetration nerf;

    ^^ are they saying they are not going to nerf those guns now after all?"

    --Apart from me, several hundred people are working on the game. And all the problems are caused because I personally play WoT only a little? Are you feeling well?"

    ^^ "Well, maybe now us players can respond the say way to the customer support, Wargaming staffers, fellow in game players, forum posters, who accuse us of the game problems and issues which are caused by game design, which we get blamed for on a daily basis, who do play the game Very Frequently."

      They are only saying that the penetration nerf will not happen in 9.7. Perhaps it will happen in 9.8 or later.

  10. The several hundred people testing the game need to look into proper balance of armored tanks vs premium rounds and Storm should avoid blanket statements about the effect such things have on the game if he's has no actual hands on experience with the issue.

  12. There is plenty of room for the T92 light tank in the game. There is no reason why the T37 should be in the game though, since it is just a prototype of other tanks, when there are real distinct tanks not in the game because "there isn't a clear place to put them" or some such excuse.

  13. hummel is in hd, but it wont be put in the game -.- he might have to kick his own arse. if they have hd models ready, why NOT add them to the game? that makes no sense.

    1. Get a buff version of the 111/1-4's 130mm gun would be nice....since the whole 112~113 is a project that IRL PRC didn't progress far....SerB Design Bureau can do a lot of things to it.

  15. Garage battles might be nice as a Stronghold mode on clan basis - two clans against each other and every player may respawn lets say 3 times (or eg, 20 respawns for the whole team) in some safe place. Might be interesting tactically, if it would not load to hard camps near spawn. (which can be prevented by spawn further away from base)

  16. -...what you personally expect from garage battles";

    Fun- you speak it?

    But i guess it was just fun mode since mm would be impossible withou lots of limitations like historicalB.

  17. So they put unhistorical guns because the armor is too strong
    And now they make only city maps and plan to nerf shells because armor is too weak
    WG logic ^^

    ReplyDelete
  18. Once again WG balance tanks with the standard shells in mind. Generaly yes some tanks would have too strong armor beeing down tired but also its not practical because in that case many tanks would have to be down tired and that would cause gaps in the tech tree.

    WG wont nerf pen on all tanks, just those having too much pen at tier 5-10 and gold ammo pen.

    WG did put unhistorical guns long before they even added gold ammo for credits. Also now days we have far superior accuracy than in the beginning of the game, so it makes sense to rebalance the pen a bit on some tanks. Also tier 10 TDs and mediums didnt even exist back then as well as the lack of many high pen guns.

    WG said they will "rebalance" pen on tier 5-10, not nerf all tanks pen. More detailed information include "nerf of those tanks having very high pen guns".

    1. Yeah I trust them to do something good. The previous times they modified the gamepley with accuracy and such it was done well, the most "extreme" change they did recently was the spg nerf, they are not going to completely destroy all we know about the game in a single update, constant rebalance is part of a game like that

  19. Arty nerf was needed because there were too many artys in the games too often and it just didnt work anymore. Then later on maps rebalance was needed to discourage camping and also some TD changes to make TD less on the battlefield.

    People have said this always and will always agree that too many arty and TDs makes game static. Most dynamic games are where majority of tanks are heavys, mediums and a few light. That encourage dynamic gameplay where people take more risks. Generaly heavys and mediums make lower alpha per shot compared to arty and TDs and also has less pen so there is higher chance of bouncing and/or taking a lower alpha shot when moving. This isnt valid with TDs, who also often dont even get spotted while shooting and/or arty that neglects armor to a big extent.

    1. Sounds like you prefer tanks to run around, drive crazy, shooting dirt and not using strategy or cover. It worked just fine if you are an arty or a TD.

  20. its amazing how often their answer is "There are other priorities". maybe we should take the same approach about playing the game. after all there not the only tank game on the market.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Its not economicly viable for WG to tell all their ideas they have for the game and/or they just repond for the sake of "responding". Of course they have other priorities and that is the nature.
